Corporate TrainingYes, And... we are passionate about working with businesses and other organizations.
Open Mind Improvisation’s Corporate Training programs are designed to improve communication in the workplace. We use improvisation, role-play, and other practical techniques to make communication healthier and more effective. We have created and delivered programs for Duke Medical School, Proficient Learning, Adama, Bolt PR, Myriad Media, Duke Finance, Royal Oaks Homes, Elon School of Nursing, AgBiome, Cardinal Gibbons High School, Meredith College, the College Advising Corps and NC Child Custody Mediation. Our facilitators and trainers have extensive experience in medical communication at Duke, UNC, Campbell, and Elon universities, as well as The American Board of Anesthesiology. Our people have worked as facilitators and role-players for Google, NASA, Rolls-Royce, Raytheon, Astellas, GlaxoSmithKline, and others. We offer programs varying in length from 2 hours to intensive full-day, multi-session workshops. Our programs are adaptable to small or large groups. We will tailor workshops to fit your group or work with you to create a new program specifically for your company. Intro to Improvisation This workshop introduces the foundation principles of improv such as Yes, And and Support Your Partner. This session is a fun, invigorating way to loosen up, collaborate, and develop greater awareness of ourselves and our coworkers. The workshop gives the group an opportunity to see each other in new, humanizing ways. For anyone anxious about stepping out of their comfort zone, we strive to make sure they feel safe and taken care of. Applied Improvisation Improvisation is used to improve collaboration, creativity, and to help people get more comfortable speaking in front of others. These exercises are especially useful in teaching basic communication skills. In most organizations, a primary concern is giving effective feedback. Because improvisational training exercises focus on the skills of listening, observing, and responding, these exercises can be useful in all work environments. Giving Feedback / Difficult Conversations The foundation of communication training is skill-building. Awareness is a skill. As is listening, empathy, and inquiry. We will address these skills in the workshop and build these skills through practice. The primary vehicle is role-play. Participants come in with a scenario--a conversation they find challenging--and a professional role-player takes on the other side of the conversation. Simple feedback models and basic improvisational techniques are presented as tools, and the group is guided in providing positive, collaborative ideas. Public Speaking Pick up the “power tools” for presentations and increase your confidence in public speaking. Learn techniques and strategies for managing public speaking apprehension, guidelines for good vocal and physical delivery, basic speech organization, use of visuals and speaker notes, attention-grabbing speech introductions, and memorable conclusions. Whether presenting ideas in a work environment, speaking to the local school board, raising funds for your favorite charity, negotiating with a salesperson, mediating a conflict, or interviewing for a job, public speaking skills will increase your ability to communicate your message more effectively. Coaching in Public Speaking and Difficult Conversations For those who would prefer a private session to prepare for a specific conversation or delivering a speech at a meeting, we offer consultations. These sessions can include a professional role-player to help the client practice for the upcoming conversation or address individual challenges.
